As the scope of an organization’s mission becomes more global and unpredictable, teams and leaders face the daunting task of coordinating goals, actions and resources in order to solve complex problems. Most organizations are choosing to use a matrix structure and collaborative problem-solving models to address this complexity. However, working in a matrix environment presents its own set of unique challenges. The breakdown in how authority works tends to breed ambiguity and conflict. The ability to solve complex problems is hindered when the need for urgent results is not balanced well with the requirement to accurately address the widely diverse needs and concerns of all stakeholders involved.
In “Houston, we have a problem,” participants will discover powerful tools that reduce complexity, encourage innovation and speed decision making to manage the complex challenges that they face. Participants will learn how to get better at defining problems, managing different interests and perspectives, generating innovative solutions, and implementing those solutions in complex, ambiguous, and sometimes conflictual environments.
